This will be the last game I will watch of Tyler Hansboro at the North Carolina.  His jersey will be up in the front row of the rafters at the Dean Dome.  Next to the likes of Jamison, Jordan, Worthy and Ford, Ol number 50 will take its rightful place reside beside those legends.  Besides Phil Ford, I have watched everyone of those great players at Carolina.  Tarheels come and go but memories last a life.  It was such a jot to watch Tyler and this Monday I hope he closes his career on a high note.  Lets go Heels!

Took the family to see the Wizards and Heat and afterwards we had dinner.  I kept sneaking away to watch the final four Tarheel Villinova game.  That is where I ran into current Wizard center and former Tarheel great Brendan Haywood. You know who we were rooting for.  Brendan was a little more reserve than I was.

View Article  A Salute to my Commander in Chief

American-Flag-Wall-ArtFor now I have officially resigned from criticizing President Obama. He is officially my President and Commander in Chief my duties are set forth by the oath I took when I chose to enlist and re-enlist inthe United States Army.  I wish my President Godspeed and the very best.  My loyalty to him and my country will not waver and its time of need “Ol Sarge” will salute and march to the beat of his orders from his Commander. Retirement for me is about two years away. After two Bush a Clinton and now Obama, this will probably be my last Commander in Chief I serve under.  As a student of military history, the famous words said by General Douglas MacArthur “Duty, Honor, and County” will forever ring hollow, not as a cliché but a way of life, the life that I will give to protect and defend this country whenever she needs me.  Presidents will change but duty doesn’t, the honor serve with those who love of country is beyond reproach.

So help me God.  God bless America and God Bless the world.

What is happening to the Church? The role of the church is slowly diminishing to the point where it is becoming irrelevant.  Only in times of crisis or uncertainty such as September 11th, is when people go running to church.  I must not forget the New Year’s resolutions that people make to lose weight and start going to church.  Attendance at my church had spiked during the first two weeks in January, but now it is back to pre September 11th levels.  The Obama administration is using the Dr. King holiday to ask Americans “to turn today's efforts into an ongoing commitment to enriching the lives of others in their communities, their cities, and their country."  On CNN Rep. James Clyburn Democrat from South Carolina mentions the Obama administration must use the “bully pulpit” of his office to press for a heavier commitment to public service.  As this country becomes more and more secular the church will have less influence. Our moral compass will be mandated via a governmental fiat. The pulpit of the church must not be replaced by a secular progressive government mired with inertness, which has holistic view of people “clinging to their guns and bibles”.

“Just be good for goodness sake” and serve soup to homeless because Obama said so will not be a mantra that I will take heed to. Just because it’s coming from the president, “For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men” (1 Peter 2:15).  The church’s role must not take a back seat to government.

View Article  Barkley has a point

BarkleyCharles Barkley rips his alma mater Auburn for not hiring Turner Gill as the schools football coach.  Auburn chose their former 2004 defensive coordinator who left Auburn to become Iowa State Cyclones football coach and since then has compiled a 5–19 record.

Turner Gill is who is black happens to be the head coach of Turner gillBuffalo.  Buffalo might not be on the list of powerhouse schools, but Turner has turned that program around in three years.  Prior to Gill taken over Buffalo had won only 10 games in their first seven seasons at the Division I-A level.  Buffalo won their division this year with an 8–5 record.

Barkley is quoted as saying

"I think race was the No. 1 factor," said Barkley, who played basketball for three seasons at Auburn during the early 1980s. "You can say it's not about race, but you can't compare the two resumes and say [Chizik] deserved the job. Out of all the coaches they interviewed, Chizik probably had the worst resume."  (espn.com)

The problem is that that are less than a handful of black college coaches in Division One football.  The elite programs have rarely took that bold initiative and hired a black coach to run its program.  Ty Willinghan did at Notre Dame, he had marginal success according to Notre Dame standards (I guess that is why he was ran away). Look at the Fightin’ Irish now.

I would love to see Turner Gill go back to his alma mater Nebraska and bring the Cornhuskers back to prominence.  My buddy who is a die “Big Red” fan would love to see that happen and so would the people in Lincoln.

View Article  My Inauguration Predictions

Now that we have elected our “Official Black President”.  I predict that the that upcoming inauguration will be the second coming to the Million Man March.  Channels, such as E, MTV, VH1, and Style will have various red carpet shows that will highlight a who's who of Hollywood and the entertainment industry that has descended to the Nation’s Capital for the inauguration.  I can wait to see what Lindsey Lohan and her girlfriend walk the red carpet with their lovely dresses.  Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs and Ludacris will host various inauguration bashes at several clubs in D.C charging patrons 50 to 100 dollars to get in. The V.I.P rooms will be off limits.  People will throw Inauguration parties comparable to a Superbowl party all over the country. The price for Obama T-shirts will go up two fold(collectors items baby).  Fireworks at the monument.

View Article  M B T (My brief thoughts)

I am not caught up in the historical nature of the election of America’s first “black president”. The fact that Barak Obama will become the 44th President of this country proves to me the democratic process does work.  Don’t get me wrong, I am not trying to downplay the historic moment for a nation that was transformed itself from a place that was scarred with, slavery, a civil war, Jim Crow and 9-11 to electing Barak Obama as President of the United States of America.  The cacophony of voices on the right who view an Obama administration as the dawning socialistic era, are scared about where this country is headed.  Forget for a moment that Barak Obama is black; the Democrats control both houses of Congress.  Their ability to push a liberal agenda will be unfettered. Should I chose the wait and see approach or just bend over and grab my ankles because we are screwed.
