Iron Man Vol 2 21Who would have thought that a B-list super hero such as Iron-Man would be a big box office draw at the movies this past weekend.  A highly favorable review by critics surely did help.  But regardless of that, a comic book nerd such as myself would have paid to see it anyway, even if I would have went by myself.  Believe me when I tell you this, my brats did not want to see this movie. Not even my own brother for whom we both share a mutual interest in comics.  I am the avid collector my brother is more of a reader. Nevertheless my best friend and love of my life Tanya stood by her man and supported me, when I told by the brats that ‘I was so pressed to see this movie” (Maybe it was because of my Iron Man screen saver on the computer) Hmmmm.  I did threaten sell off my whole collection of comics when I get old.  Not to pass it down to them. Their argument to me was, I don’t know about Iron man like we know Spider Man or Wolverine (not the X Men).

Yes Spidey and Logan are two of the most popular heros in the Marvel Universe. But Tony Stark aka Iron Man is the richest, and over the past few years Marvel Comics has promoted Tony Starks to A-list status. (Read Marvel’s Civil War Series).  I have collected Iron Man comics since I was a teen.

This is the arguably one of the best Comic book movies that was produced. The geeks that work at the place where I by my comics from agree are in agreement with me.  The original origin was set during the Vietnam era but updating it to coincide with the current era was great. Robert Downey Jr was Tony Starks and the irony of the both characters is that their personal lives sort of parallel.  Tony Starks had a serious drinking problems and and at one his point personal demons prevented him from donning the Iron Man armor.  His buddy James Rhodes (Rhodie) wore the Iron Man armor, but when Tony recovered he constructed another suit for his best friend and Rhodie became “War Machine”War Machine 1

The movie gave a hint that there might be an appearance of War Machine in the sequel.  Terrence Howard as War Machine? I wasn’t really feeling him as Rhodie. Tanya thinks Jamie Fox would have been a better fit. I agree with her. Gwenth Palthrow as Pepper Potts and Jeff Bridges as Obadiah Stane was a perfect fit.  Jeff Bridges had that Stone Cold Steve Austin look going.

Ol Sarge is truly showing is geeky side.

I can’t wait for the sequel!!
