Benny_Parsons_400NASCAR has lost one of its ambassadors of the sport when stock car legend Benny Parson passed away.   Benny Parson was part of the broadcasting team for NASCAR's coverage on NBC.  He was good at providing insight and explaining what a bump draft” was and the different pit strategies during the race.  He provided novices like me a way to learn the sport quickly.  Thanks to Benny I can talk NASCAR with best of them. As my co worker Dave recently told me “For a Gordon fan……..Sarge you are pretty good”   That means allot because Dave is a die hard Earnhardt fan who loves Johnny Cash.

View Article  Gilbert The Great

It has been awhile since we have had a true baller in DC.  Gilbert The Great or Agent Zero has sparked an interest in Wizards and put DC back on the map as far as respectability when it comes to being a legitimate NBA team. I no longer see people wearing other teams’ jerseys or cheering for players like Kobe, Lebron, Carmello, A.I. or Shaq when they come to town. Nor do the Wizards promote other teams’ superstars just to sell tickets.

We got Gilbert Arenas.  Although it is early, if he continues to play like he has been playing. Gilbert can be a MVP.  I been through the hard times. I’ve seen Moses, Chris Webber, Rod Strickland, “Never Nervous” Pervis Ellison Jeff Malone, Mitch Richmond, Manute Bol.Ben Wallace and my two favorite player of all time Bernard King and Michael Jordan come and go. I have never given up on the Wizards/Bullets.  Year after year the I have been disappointed  in the Wizards.

Not now.

Go Wizards

After two gulf wars, three presidents, six promotions, many bad hairs cuts and push ups. I have hit my 16 year mark.  Many have asked me “Sarge are you staying in past 20?”  my response….. “Hell Naw Hero!!!”  Besides let Barbara Boxer’s grandkids put on the uniform. I am done in less than four.  (unless my Country needs me)

16 years and 80 pounds later!! I still look good.

Florida Gators players celebrate.

Does the Florida Gators own the Ohio State Buckeyes or what?  First the Gators basketball whupped on Greg Oden and rest of the Buckeyes basketball team, now the football team totally beat the crap out of  Buckeyes’ football squad in what was a total blowout in the BCS National Title game.  Congrats to the Gators.

Football season is over, it is all about basketball and my Tar Heels

Nba-draft-four-390Congrats to Rashad McCants, Raymond Felton, and Sean May for getting your Jersey at Carolina honored and put up in the rafters at the Dean E. Smith Center (Dean Dome) They have joined the likes of Jordan, Worthy, Perkins, Jamison, Cater, Ford, and Stackhouse (just to name a few).  The champs had persevere during the dark times and help restore glory back to North Carolina basketball.  They won the title back in 2005 (A game I still watch) against a great Illinois team.  A combined 7 players from both teams are current playing in the NBA to include the the three I mentioned and Marvin Williams who by the way left Carolina after his freshman year and would a Junior at Carolina if he stayed.

View Article  Coach Knight 880

2Love him or hate Coach Bob Knight knows his stuff and he can flat out coach and teach the game of basketball. Now he has pass Coach Dean Smith as the all time winning coach in division one basketball.  As a diehard Tar Heel fan it was all about Coach Dean Smith and what he has meant to Carolina basketball.  Both coaches approaches to game are stark in contrast, nicknamed the General, coach Robert Knight uses a militaristic approach to coaching his young men. Coach Smith on the other hand took the low key method.  The only time I can recall seeing Coach Smith upset during a game was when he was ejected against Kansas in the 1991 final four semi finals.  Coach Knight on the other hand outbursts were legendary.  Coach Knight was Pattonesque and his players loved him for and remain loyal to him. Coach Smith, if I had to compare him to a General, I would use Omar Bradley. Gen Bradley was the soldiers soldier his leadership style was much different than Patton but just as effective. If I had any ounce of basketball talent to play at the collegiate level, Coach Smith would have been my first choice and Coach Knight would have been my second. Although coaches win games, it is the players that make it happen. Congrats to Coach Knight.
