The Cigar smoking Celtic icon Red Auerbach was laid to rest today. The Cigars he smoked and the occasional sitings in downtown Washington DC (Foggy Bottom, Chinatown) was not one of my fondess memory of him, it was watching him flash that grin he flashed when  Boston drafted Len Bias.  Boston would have dominated the Lakers had Bias played.  James Worthy versus Len Bias would have been great to watched.  James Worthy is my boy from Carolina (Go Heels) in all but Worthy’s D was suspect and Bias might have ate Big game James up.

Red was a dynasty builder and the Celtics that he coached during the 50’s and 60’s were an amazing basketball team (well that is what my pops told me) All pops talked about was Bill Russell this Bill Russell that. 

 I don’t doubt pops about big Bill.  He was a beast.  However Red was the Man

Has John Kerry ever been to Iraq to visited the stupid troops. He is a vet and I pretty sure his minions will spin it in his favor. His three frivolous Purple Hearts will be mention by the media.

So kids you can work hard, get deployed to Middle East twice, start your own blog, go back to college and make the Dean’s List, position yourself to make a 6 figure salary plus collect a retirement check while doing numerous push ups to stay in shape. If you don’t then you will be stuck taking too much of your medication while filming a commercial because you are too damn stupid to read a label. Or if you are female you will get stuck marrying someone like Bobby Brown or Rosie O'Donnell.

No not me but Rep Duncan Hunter will run for President in 2008.

Was there any doubt who won the debate on Meet the press

The staff of the Herald (me) officially endorses Michael Steele for the US Senate.  Was there any doubt that I would not endorse my Lt. Governor from my great state of Maryland. If Harold Ford doesn't get elected in Tennessee than Michael Steele would be the first African American from a southern state (check the Mason Dixon line hero) to be elected to the U.S.Senate.  The Republican label is definitely a "scarlet letter" if not, then when doesn't Michael Steele get the Obama "rock star" treatment from the press.  Hmmm smells like bias to me.  While station in Kuwait and before Major Combat Operations in Iraq began.  My Governor and Lt Governor took time to send me a letter.  It was was response to a congratulatory email I sent them for winning the election in Maryland.  Click here to read   the letter.

 I am also endorsing Governor Bob for reelection. I supported Bob when  the people of Maryland wanted a regime change and Bob delivered. To be honest Governor Bob's opponent is Mayor of one of the worse cities in America and he wants the people of Maryland to promote him to Governor. If you ever watched HBO's hit series called "The Wire" then you will know that this truly art imitating life in the mean streets of Baltimore or "B-More" short for B- More careful that includes voting for Mayor who is a miserable failure.

Have we lost the will to win wars? Not just in Iraq, but anywhere? Do we really believe that being nice is more important than victory?

With all this talk about cutting and running or the politically correct term “re-deployment of troops” I would  emphatically say “yes”.  But then again who are we? “We” the people or “We” the soldier.  The former truly has lost its will while the ladder has not but because polls and politics decide how “we” fight.  “We” might as well just pull the plug and bow our heads in disgrace and leave the Middle East for good.  My question then will be “Where are “WE” going to build the Iraqi memorial at in DC”  I will need to see a marble wall with a list of my comrades who died.

The Baseball fan in me was saddened to learn that Negro league legend Buck Oneil passed away the other day.  The truly last living spokesmen for the famed Negro was an ambassador for the game.  Although he has not made it to Cooperstown, Mr O’Neil is a Hall of famer in our hearts.  Gone are the stories about Jackie Robinson, Satchell Paige and Josh Gibson, those I have never seen played but came to idolized by listening to their stories from likes of Buck O’Neil. He never let the spirit of the Negro League die and for that we should be grateful to him.  This day in age African Americans play less or watch less baseball.  The several Washington Nationals games I’ve gone to, you can notice that not many blacks attend compared to whites.  The interest is not that great in baseball as compared to other sports like basketball of football.  Surely Washington is a football town, but it has room for baseball (I will address that in a future post)

The Negro League spirit must move on and we must not forget. I believe Buck O'Neil surely would have wanted it that way.

I couldn’t agree more with Tony Blankley when he and the Washington Times called for House Speaker Dennis Hastert to resign.  It is from my understanding that Mr Speaker knew about  Mark Foley’s flirtatious friendly e-mails to young boys long time ago. Forget the fact that he did not tell the Democrats.  Whether or not they would have used it to their political advantage is irrelevant. Rep Dennis Hastert owed this to the American people. Apparantly protecting the children is not a priority, protecting the “party” is.

Getting back to the Democrats,  I could care less if they would have used this to their advantage.  They have no morals,  we all saw this when they protected a President who was a sexual predator, while the Drill Sergeants in Army were going down left and right for sleeping with trainees, so hhould had the “Commander in Chief” for having sex with his trainee? (I mean intern).   It is a crime in the military and guess who is in the chain of command,  Mr Clinton?  Yet he got a pass from the ass or massess of assess (um donkey), aww heck whatever the Democrats masscot is. 

As far as Mr Speaker is concerned Mr Blankley sums it up. 

“How in the world will Republicans be able to champion our values in the future if we weasel and excuse the cover-up of such conduct in one of our own? We have more to protect than the next election, we have our historic reputation among more than half the country for our principles.”

Sorry Mr Speaker you might be a good Republican but, it is a matter of Principle over Politics

Hastert should resign Tony Blankley

When members of Congress or the individuals who are running for office talk about “pulling the troops out Iraq” or “Bringing the troops home” to the cheers of their base. I can only shake my head at this populist rhetoric currently dominating the political scene. Millionaire Democrat Ned Lamont defeated the incumbent Joe Lieberman in the Connecticut democratic primaries to become his party’s nominee to the US Senate using this tactic.  Lamont’s platform was based on anti George Bush platitudes and “Bringing the Troops home” slogan that seems to be popular amongst the anti war left.  If “Ned Lament” (Thanks Rush) is successful in bringing the troops home will he use part of his millions to throw the troops a big party or a ticker tape parade like the troops received after World War II was over?  He won’t and here’s why.

First, I must question, who are these politicians fooling with this phony rhetoric? Members of the Armed Forces serve at the pleasure of the Commander in Chief and as Clausewitz puts it “War is the continuation of policy (politics) by other means.”  Thus eliminating those dilettantes who make promises to pull troops out just to get elected or re-elected. This statement might be vile and basic to some, but it is the truth. Whether Democrat or Republican we serve at the his pleasure. 

Second, written in Article II Section 2 of our great Constitution. “The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States when called into actual service of the United States”  In Contrast, under the Articles of Confederation “the sole and exclusive right and power for determining on war and peace” was entrusted to the congress. Some members of congress probably wished that the Articles were still existence because a separate executive branch of our government would be null.

Third, the incursion into the Commander in Chief’s powers by congress to effectively prosecute a war such as the a “war on terror” lacks any kind of Constitutional  support.  Congressional consent is required before initiation of hostilities, but the lack of any provision in the Constitution limits Congress ability to lead the war as they see fit. 

If the Democrats get back in charge of Congress they can start an “Articles of Impeachment” and cut the funding off to Iraq.

 Congress controls the funding.  “Bringing the troops home” is code for  “Pulling the plug on the funding” to include impeaching the Commander in Chief  Democrats know this. 

Ned Lamont, Nancy Pelosi and the rest of their ilk won’t tell you though.  

The Herald is turning two.  This was the scene when I started this blog about me being in Iraq.  It has now has morphed into something I really can’t describe. When I started the Herald it was at the end of my second tour in middle east.. I was part of the Iraqi Survey Group (ISG) and our big report was due to be published for all of the world to see.  The coalition that made up the ISG were truly a great group of professionals that took their jobs serious.  It truly was an honor to be part of such an historic group. I’d learned allot about the British and Australian militaries and broke bread with some of their fine soldiers. Regardless of whether or not you like the results of  ISG Duelfler report,  people bust their asses night in and out searching for the truth in an region where truth was hard to find.  That report was a product the blood, sweat and the selfless service of ISG to provide the answers to the President of United States, members of Congress and the American people.

When I left Iraq I decided to focus on the local politics around me and my passion for sports especially my local area Washington DC teams.  With a twist of Ole Sarge humor I try to have fun when I blog because life is too damn short to trip off the silly crap. 

Ole Sarge is the the angry Noncommissioned Office with a temper that you will only see in any of Samuel L. Jackson movies. Other than that I am a nice guy who is very conservative in his views and will not waver from them.  No matter how utopian a liberal idea might sound, don’t raise my taxes to try accomplish it.  I can be very combative only when pushed (think about Samuel Jackson in a Time to Kill)

I am back in school once again and my studies have taking most of time. I will continue to update the Herald I promise you that HERO!!!!.  This will also give me a chance to decide which direction I will take the Herald.
