That damn "Al Thugga" strikes again

Recently a young man was robbed and beating severely at the Boulevard at the Capital Centre in Largo, Maryland. He was on his way to meet his girlfriend to see the movie “Jarhead”  The young man name was Matthew Pickett Jr.  A few days after this heinous crime, Mathew died.  He was struck in the head with some sort of metal pipe.

Why? I truly don’t know.  Robert Nealon, commander of the homicide unit in Prince Georges County Maryland, called the incident an "unprovoked attack" by about 10 young men.

Matthew enlisted in the Army.  According to his Army recruiter, Mathew wanted to go to Iraq and become a member of the elite Special Forces.  His father Mathew Pickett Sr. was an Army Ranger.

According to the article in the Washington Post  “Pickett's family described him as a quiet person who was working with special needs children as a teacher's aide at Rosaryville Elementary in Upper Marlboro while he waited to go to basic training at Fort Benning, in Georgia, next month.”

15 years ago I joined the Army to see the world and escape the violence of the Washington DC area. Those who know me , know that I came from a upper middle class background and basically could have gone to any college or military prep school I wanted.  I chose to enlist in the Army and ironically, I joined right before the first Gulf war was getting heated.  I was asked at the time whether I was afraid to go to war.  My response was,“if I could survive the Washington DC area I can survive anywhere.”

Matthews didn’t. These terrorist at home need to be stopped.

Man Dies After Attack At Mall in Pr. George's

I’ve been out of the blog spotlight for sometime now.  The reason being is that “Ole Sarge” has been sort of busy. That doesn’t mean that I don’t have allot to say, nor has there been any order from the brass at the Pentagon to silence this “Old Soldier”  With my school work, taking care of my daughters and getting up at 4 in the morning to beat the traffic in D.C just to get to Fort Myers and do Physical Training has taking its toll on me.  Plus couple with the fact that I am in charge of the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), makes it hard for me to Blog. However I am a soldier and I will soldier on.

It saddens me to her or read about my fellow service members being killed. Whether if it was the 119th or the 2000th troop killed I am still sadden by it.  Now the idiots on the left have their magic number of 2,00, which means we are treated to watching the Cindy Sheehan show once again.  The peace mom who wants the troops home.  I salute her son, plus those who have since died for a noble cause.  As much as we all loathe war, those who chose to fight should remain steadfast and dedicated to completing the mission.  If Cindy wants the troops home, she should run for President. 

It has been a while since I’ve opened my mouth on the “Herald”.  Hurricane Hunter will come soon but right now I am concentrating on my studies. I am taking several classes at once in order to earn this degree.  My prayers go out to all the Katrina victims.  I wish I could be there to help with the effort.

The Army presented an honorable discharge to the family of its first African-American chaplain and dedicated a new memorial marker July 1 to Capt. Henry Vinton Plummer, more than 110 years after his court-martial in 1894.

Capt Plummer was born 1844 as a slave in Maryland. The brother of three siblings was commission as an Army Chaplin in 1884, after attending the Wayland Seminary and serving as a pastor of a  church which was founded by one of his sisters. Capt Plummer was appointed as the chaplain of the famed 9th U.S. Army Cavalry (Buffalo Soldiers).

While stationed in Nebraska, Capt. Plummer was court martialed and received a dishonorable discharge for what was “conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentlemen”

Up until his death in 1905 he maintained his innocence

In February 2004 Governor Robert Ehrlich and Lt Governor Michael Steele signed a letter of support to clear Capt Plummers name

Trooper Richard E. Robinson, president of the National Ninth and Tenth (Horse) Calvary Association, Buffalo Soldiers said Capt. Plummer was part of the Buffalo Soldier legacy - the same troops who fought beside Teddy Roosevelt on Kettle Hill.

"The U.S. Army has returned Henry Plummer's honor and dignity to the family today," Robinson said. 

He is buried where some of my family members are burried. I salute his family for their resolve to right a wrong.  The Army is totally different than it was 100 years ago. I am proud that the Army gave the Chaplain the send off he deserved.

Dennis Prager latest article asserts that the “left doesn't support the troops and should admit it” I could care less if they do admit it or not. They are the reason why I love freedom and love this great land of ours. 

A few weeks back I was on the Metro train in DC going to my job in Virginia.  I always wear my uniform while riding the train so anyone that notices me know that I am in the military.  A young lady of college age thanked me for my service and I support the troops yadda, yadda… BUT… I don’t support the war. Now if you know Ole Sarge, the first thing that I did was give the famous smirk (think of Dick Cheney) This is the expression on my face that I normally get when I just heard or read something stupid i.e. from a person or an organization like the NAACP or if I am in a place full of idiots such as my PTA meetings or those stupid sensitivity training that we get in the Government.

I did thank her for her support. However, I questioned her as to why she did not support the war. Her response and this is typical with the left. “Bush lied and he sent kids to die” Before she got off another word I interrupted her. My response was first of all I am a grown ass man raising two girls. My mother doesn’t look at me as her “kid” she sees her son as this man who chose to be a soldier and respects that fact. Second for you to support the troops and not the war is like me saying I support the players of the Washington Redskins because they play for my home-town but not the game of football because of the senseless violence and barbarity of the game.

Honest people on the Left need to understand that the two positions are not reconcilable. A German citizen during World War II could not have argued: "The Nazi regime's army is engaged in an evil war of aggression and is slaughtering millions of innocent people, and I therefore completely oppose this war, but I sure do support the Nazi troops."

I continue to stress that it is the who Soldier hate war more than anyone.  When duty calls the soldier takes his marching orders goes to battle. You can either pick up and weapon and follow me or you can sit in stands and root for the home team.

Lastly, I told the young lady you might say  “war is not the answer”

I say once they hit us on 911……… “There wasn’t any multiple choices on this matter”

I was at the Pentagon when the plane hit…. So this is personal….. Hero!!!!

Brutally Honest

Congrats goes out to Dale Jr. with his victory at Chicagoland speedway in Joliet, Illinois. This is first time in  about 20 races I’ve seen the number 8 Budweiser Chevy in the victory circle. Dale Jr clearly NASCAR’s most popular driver has struggle this year. 

 "I was worried I was going to go winless this year," the relieved Earnhardt said after smoking the tires on his No. 8 Chevrolet and celebrating with his crew in the infield grass. "Now, let's go out and do it again, win some more."

With his third place finish last week at Daytona. Dale Jr is creeping back into the points’ chase.  If he keeps this up he will be hard beat.

On a sadder note.

For four-time series champion Gordon, who finished 33rd, it was his sixth finish of 30th or lower in the last eight races. He fell to 15th place in the standings, 502 points behind Johnson, his Hendrick Motorsports teammate. (NASCAR.COM)

I am a big Jeff Gordon fan. He is clearly in a slump.  Since the race in Delaware (when Tony Stewart wrecked him) The Dupont 24 Chevy team has been struggling.  Yesterday’s race was another frustrating day not only for Jeff but his fans. The 24 car was not handling right and he basically looked lost out there up until lap 249 when Mike Wallace wrecked him.  Hopefully we will see the 24 car in the victory circle at Loundon, New Hampshire

Someone told me that I should change my the name of my blogsite to “The Hunter Hiatus”  Ole Sarge has been busy with school.  I told my academic advisor that I was going to get straight A’s in all of my classes.  With the first class under my belt.  I am well on my way……….

Maybe the New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft needs to ask the President Bush to demand from the President Putin in a Reaganesque like manner the same return of his Superbowl ring..

Can you imagine the President giving a speech at the Boston Harbor saying something to this effect…”Mr Putin Give Bob Back That Ring”

My favorite conservative writer who turned 75 on June 30th (a day after Ole Sarge turned 33)  has a brand new article on townhall.com in which he talks about about America and his life in the 75 years.

Hopefully I will live that long to talk about my life and how America was after June 29th, 1972. I have a long way to go and when that time comes in 2047 I should be close to drawning my social secuirty check.
